Political Corruption Strikes Twice This Week
A California state senator and the mayor of Charlotte, NC have been charged with political corruption and accepting bribes this week. Both were arrested yesterday morning in their respective home states for the accusations, neither case is related.
Money for Nothing: Big Banks Skim Millions From California’s Poor
Big banks scalp massive amounts of money from customers and account holders every year through transaction and ATM fees. The California Reinvestment Coalition (CRC)released a report showing that big banks cost Californian, low-income families about $19 million a year in ATM fees in 2012, and that money has all come from public assistance funds.
168,000 Gallons of Oil Spilled Near Houston
On Saturday, a collision between a ship and barge caused an oil spill that released 168,000 gallons of crude oil into the waterway near the Texas City Dike. The spill produced an oil sheen visible on the water near the Galveston Jetties and East Beach. The spill happened shortly before the 25th anniversary of the Exxon Valdez oil spill.
