Brent Douglas Cole, 60, was accused of shooting two law enforcement officers over the weekend, including a California Highway Patrol officer and Bureau of Land Management ranger over the weekend. It turned out that the shooter, Cole, is an anti-government conspiracy theorist, much like Las Vegas’s the Millers who shot and killed two police officers in the name of right-wing nut politics.
Thankfully, the officers that Cole shot in Nevada County, CA sustained non-life threatening injuries. Cole, on the other hand, will surely see a harsher fate should he get convicted of shooting the officers. He’s currently in stable condition after sustaining gun shot wounds from the officers. He already has one gun charge pending against him from this past January where he was allegedly carrying a loaded firearm. Cole believes that he’s the target of an anti-gun, government conspiracy.
Documents from the January case illustrate Cole’s conspiracy theory, as well as his pension for the dramatic, and right-wing loon ideas:
Officers acted without warrant or any probable cause to seize my person using a swat team style assault, and then started looking for something to charge me with. I was attacked and molested, unconstitutionally arrested, unlawfully incarcerated, repeatedly intimidated and coerced to plead guilty to having committed a crime, held in secret for five days, and my property and liberty taken from me since January 24, 2014. I am being persecuted for being a gun owner, and for exercising my inherent Right by unwitting or unknowing accomplices of a seditious conspiracy against rights instituted by foreign powers inimical to the United States of America.
Cole views himself as some kind of lone freedom fighter. In Cole’s words, he’s a “sovereign American Citizen attempting to thwart the obvious subterfuges of powers inimical to the United States.” This basically means that he thinks he’s some kind of vigilante who’s trying to topple the government’s plans to kill our rights and control our minds. He also thinks he can pick and choose what laws to follow in his right-wing nut pursuit of cowboy-style justice.
Granted, no one died from this incident, and that’s blessing, but the incident falls under the same narrative as the Millers shooting in Las Vegas. A government-hating, right-wing loon who wants to protect their guns shot at other human beings. The Millers did so in the name of liberty, and Cole more than likely did it for the same reason. He’s another GOP-bred gun nut that further proves the case against guns in America.
