Last night, Jon Stewart tried to open The Daily Show by talking about the situation in Gaza. However, anytime the host mentioned the word “Israel,” he was inundated with screams from his correspondents team.
“Israel isn’t supposed to defend itself? … Self-hating Jew,” they screamed. “Zionist pig!”
“Look, obviously there are many strong opinions on this,” Stewart was finally able to say. “But just merely mentioning Israel or questioning in any way the effectiveness or humanity of Israel’s policies is not the same thing as being pro-Hamas.”
This was met with shouts of “Free Palestine! Free Gaza!”
Stewart then suggested “Why don’t we talk about something lighter, like Ukraine?”
