Immigration is a touchy subject, especially with Hispanic voters, so it’s quite comical that an Alabama Republican said that Democrats want to use the issue to “wage a war” against white people. Just a reminder, any legislative move that seems to affect minorities directly has been perpetrated by Republicans: voter purge, welfare cuts, healthcare blocks, etc.
The relationship between Republicans and Hispanic voters has been shaky at best, and the hispanic demographic proved to be a large, deciding factor in the 2012 elections. Had Republicans done a better job of appealing to the Hispanic vote, the race might have been tighter than what it was. However, too many times has the Republican party made itself unreachable for America’s Hispanic demographic.
However, despite being vastly unpopular with Hispanics, some Republicans foolishly think its the Dems who want to segregate races.
“This [immigration] is a part of the war on whites that’s being launched by the Democratic Party. And the way in which they’re launching this was is by claiming that whites hate everybody else,” said Brooks. “It’s part of the strategy that Barack Obama implemented in 2008, continued in 2012, where he divides us all on race, on sex, greed, envy, class warfare, all those kinds of things. Well that’s not true.”
Considering that Republicans have done everything they can to stifle the voices of minorities in the country, they don’t need the Democrats’ help in convincing the country that the GOP is a pro-white male party. The Republican party has alienated itself from American minorities, and acting like its the Democrats fault for waging some kind of race war against the old, white guys isn’t going to help.
