A recent poll has found that Americans overwhelmingly disapprove of the Republican-led Congress. The poll found that 72 percent of Americans disapprove of the job the GOP is doing in Congress.
Obama and the Democrats didn’t fare much better. Fifty-four percent disapproved of the job Obama is doing and 61 percent disapproved of the Democrats in Congress.
Polling results like that are certainly no surprise as the do-nothing Congress has been, for some time, almost completely distrusted and disliked by the American people. The GOP has had an image problem for ages and its approval ratings have also been abysmal.
With midterm elections looming, however, Republicans are looking to try and gain ground in both chambers of Congress. Democrats, meanwhile, are trying to hold onto their majority in the Senate. Over at The Upshot, it Nate Cohn noted that these upcoming elections may hinge on merely a choice between the lesser of two evils, or “Who’s More Unloved, Obama or G.O.P.“.
Obama does seem to think that holding onto the Senate is an important goal. He spoke at length about the need to continue the control of at least one house of Congress on his most recent appearance with Meet the Press.
