Charles Warner was put to death last night for the killing of an infant in 1997.  At 7:28 PM, Warner was declared dead. During the execution, Warner is reported as having shown no physical signs of distress. However, he did say, “My body is on fire.”

Asked to offer his last words, Warner answered: “Before I give my final statement, I’ll tell you they poked me fives times. It hurt. It feels like acid.” He added, “I’m not a monster. I didn’t do everything they say I did.”

Warner was executed using lethal injection, the same method used in the execution of Clayton Lockett. Lockett’s execution in April resulted in a moratorium on executions in Oklahoma after he lifted his head and moaned after he was declared conscious.

Warren’s attorney, Madeline Cohen, said, “Because Oklahoma injected Mr. Warner with a paralytic tonight, acting as a chemical veil, we will never know whether he experienced the intense pain of suffocation and burning that would result from injecting a conscious person with rocuronium bromide and potassium chloride.”
