After the controversial deaths of Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, and unfortunately others, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio took some heat for admitting that he had given his bi-racial son advice on how to act if stopped by police.

Mayor de Blasio, however, is by no means alone in noticing the differences in the ways that white children and black children are often treated by police. It is something the black community has been dealing with for decades — centuries even.

This PSA-style video produced by the SALT Project shows what black parents have to tell their children in efforts to ensure their safety.
