We all know that the Democratic Party has weakened in recent years, but it’s gotten really bad now. An internal report from the McClatchy Washington Bureau noted that “Democrats have become a confused political party with a muddled message and an inability to turn out enough of its loyal voters.”
Politicians from within the party have noticed that the Democratic Party is a sinking ship. Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear (D) said to the DNC Winter conference that “I am here to tell you that the Democratic Party has lost its way.” The main problem with the party is that Democrats have failed to project a clear, unifying message to their constituents, he said.
Also, the Democrats used to have a strong pull with Southern white voters, as well as the minority vote. However, they’ve lost that Southern white demographic to the Republicans. The Democrats were the party of the lower- and middle-classes, but they’ve lost that group and need to get those voters back.
Another problem with the Democratic Party is that there’s no actual leadership. There are very few Democrats in Congress (Warren and Sanders) that are willing to stand up and fight for their constituents.
With each party looking like it’s going to implode, the Democrats need to step up their visibility in Congress, but most importantly, their visibility among key constituents.
