ESPN has suspended nighttime anchor Keith Olbermann for tweets he sent that criticized Penn State University, reported Raw Story.

A Penn State supporter tweeted on Monday a link to Olbermann illustrating how the university raised over $13 million for pediatric cancer research. In the tweet, she copied in the link and the school’s motto “We Are,” reported Raw Story.

In a response that prompted some to believe that Olbermann didn’t even open the link, the news anchor replied “…Pitiful.” Olbermann’s response caused an outrage among students and supporters of the school.

After the exchange, ESPN released a statement saying that Olbermann has been suspended for the remainder of the week.

“We are aware of the exchange Keith Olbermann had on Twitter last night regarding Penn State,” said the statement. “It was completely inappropriate and does not reflect the views of ESPN. ESPN and Keith have agreed that he will not host his show for the remainder of this week and will return on Monday.”

Olbermann sent an apology tweet yesterday.
