While events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the civil rights march ion Selma were taking place this weekend, members of the Alabama Ku Klux Klan were distributing racist fliers throughout the city, AL.com reported.
Robert Jones, the grand dragon of the Loyal White Knights of the KKK told AL on Sunday that about 4,000 fliers were distributed in Selma and Montgomery over the two weeks leading up to the events.
“We pretty much put out fliers, some against King and some against immigration,” said Jones. “It’s time for the American people to wake up to these falsehoods that they preach about [Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.].”
Claiming that the KKK had no problem with the events taking place in Selma over the weekend, Jones said the group was frustrated with people’s support of King, “a man they don’t know about.”
The fliers were also meant to serve as a method of recruitment. “The Klan is still out there, and we are watching,” Jones said.
Several of the fliers’ recipients alerted CBS Montgomery 8 reporters about what they found in front of their homes.

The distribution of these fliers shows that sadly, even 50 years after the tragic events that took place on “Blood Sunday,” racism is still alive in well in America.
