Amid the revelations that Fox News crony Bill O’Reilly lied about his “reporting” of the Buenos Aires riot after the Falklands War, O’Reilly’s cameraman at the time has come forth to confirm the fabrications, reported The Huffington Post.
O’Reilly said in a 2009 interview that he rescued his CBS colleague who, he said, had gotten attacked and was bleeding. According to O’Reilly, “the camera went flying,” and he “saved the tape because it was an unbelieveable tape. But I dragged him off the street because he was bleeding from the ear and had hit his head on the concrete.”
Ignacio Medrano-Carbo told Mother Jones that O’Reilly’s account of rescuing him was completely fabricated.
“I never fell nor was I bleeding out my ear at any time during my Buenos Aires assignment,” said Medrano-Carbo. “I do not even recall Mr. O’Reilly being near me when I shot all that footage nor after I left the unrest at Plaza de Mayo that evening.”
O’Reilly also said he saw casualties during the Buenos Aires riots, but Medrano-Carbo said that was false as well.
“I can confirm that no one I know of who worked with me in Buenos Aires during the Falklands War ever heard of any CBS crew member getting beat or hurt,” he said. “Nor did any demonstrators get killed that night at Plaza de Mayo – to quote a colleague, ‘or we would’ve been following up at the morgue and interviewing family members.’”
O’Reilly has fired back saying that he never worked with Medrano-Carbo, saying that this is another “coordinated attack” against his character. In response to O’Reilly, Medrano-Carbo asserted that he filmed “ninety-nine percent of that footage” O’Reilly used in Buenos Aires.
Fox News hasn’t even looked into Bill O’Reilly’s claims which appear to be clearly false. But why would they? The O’Reilly Factor was the network’s No. 1 show for years. O’Reilly probably won’t get punished for his actions, which speaks volumes about Fox News.
