A New York City police officer became unhinged over a minor traffic violation that supposedly never occurred and verbally abused an Uber cab driver, reported The Huffington Post. The NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau is investigating the incident, which was caught on film.
After pulling over an Uber driver, the still-unnamed officer mercilessly berates the driver when he asks what he was stopped for.
“Stop it with your mouth, stop it with your ‘For what, sir, for what, sir,’ stop it with that bullshit,” said the officer. “I don’t know what fucking planet you think you’re on right now.”
The officer insisted that the driver committed three violations. However, Sanjay Seth, the rider who taped the incident, said that didn’t happen.
“Our Uber driver, Humayun, was abused by a police officer today in New York,” said Seth. “The rage, door slamming, throwing items into the car, threatening arrest without cause was bad enough — but the officer’s remarks at the end really took it to another level.”
“In an unmarked car, the policeman was allegedly attempting to park without using his blinker at a green light,” Seth wrote on his YouTube page. “(His reverse lights weren’t on. Likely double parked without hazards on.) The Uber driver pulled around and gestured that he should use his blinker, casually and non-offensively, and kept driving us. The policeman aggressively pulls up behind us and this is what happens.”
The officer then proceeded to ask the driver about his nationality. “I don’t know where you’re coming from, where you think you’re appropriate in doing that; that’s not the way it works,” said the officer. “How long have you been in this country?!”
As one of the passengers said, the officer is on an obvious powertrip. There is no reason the officer should have abused the driver like that, especially if there’s a chance that the officer is wrong. Police officers have lost their minds.
