Evangelical conservative gun-nut Mike Huckabee spoke at the Republican Leadership Summit in New Hampshire. During his visit, he was interviewed by the Manchester Political Buzz Examiner and he started talking about guns, reported Right Wing Watch.
He said that the 2nd Amendment wasn’t about hunting or sporting, it was about “freedom.”
“The Second Amendment is not about hunting,” said Huckabee. “This is about freedom. And I’ve heard people say ‘Huckabee is one of those gun nuts.’ Where I come from, a gun nut is a person who is irrationally afraid of a firearm because they don’t understand the nature of having one and the importance to their liberty. I don’t love guns, but I do love freedom. I love it a lot.”
Huckabee’s brand of seething patriotism isn’t inspirational. It’s closer to fascist nationalism than patriotic. Later in the interview, Huckabee takes the interview on a dark, violent path. He said he we would call 911 if someone broke into his house, but to report the crime.
“Yes, I will still call 911,” he said. “But it’s not going to be to call to helplessly wait as a victim while somebody ravages my family or my home. I call 911 to tell them where to come pick up the body of the son of a gun who broke into my house in the middle of the night.”
Mike Huckabee truly thinks he’s God’s gunslinger. He argues that guns protect liberty and that liberty was handed down to America from the heavens by God Almighty. In reality, he is just a gun-loving, ultra-conservative kook.
