If you weren’t already convinced that life in Texas is insane, maybe this will help push you over the edge. Yesterday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott asked the State Guard to observe an American military training exercise. He was responding to widespread suspicion in the state that the exercise was merely a ruse to hide a federal takeover of Texas.
A county judge in Texas, Paul Pape, said, “It’s a sad [day] when people’s greatest fear is their own government. Think about the ramification of that. If Americans go to sleep at night worrying whether their own government is going to sell them out before morning, it’d be hard to sleep.”
Abbott’s request comes just a day after a spokesman for the U.S. Army answered questions for nearly two hours to try and relax concerns about the military exercise. On Monday, the spokesman responded to fears from citizens that the military was building up to overthrow their state to concern that Islamic State fighters would be brought in to oppress the population.
