The field of terrible candidates running for the GOP’s 2016 presidential nomination now officially stands at five. Neurosurgeon Ben Carson and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina have both thrown their hats into the race
Fiorina sent a tweet announcing her candidacy this morning. It simply read, “I am running for President,” with a link to her campaign page.

“Our founders never intended us to have a professional political class, they believed that citizens and leaders needed to step forward,” she said in her announcement video. “We know the only way to reimagine our government is to reimagine who is leading it.”
Carson told Cincinnati’s WKRC that he’s “willing to be part of the equation and therefore, I’m announcing my candidacy for president of the United States of America.”
While neither candidate has actually held public office before — Fiorina ran for senate in 2010 and was defeated by incumbent Barbara Boxer (D) — both tout their success in the private sector as proof they could run the country.
The candidates might want to rethink their strategy, however. Fiorina was ousted from HP after a tenuous merger with Compaq that sent the company’s stock value plummeting. She also laid off 30,000 workers during her tenure. But the GOP is the party of job creators, right?
And while Carson heralds his record in the medical field as a qualification for POTUS, “but a number of Carson’s former patients and their families involved in [malpractice] claims offered the Guardian a conflicting account of his near-perfect medical path toward presidential politics, detailing their continued suffering from paralysis, seizure, an uncontrollable bladder and more life-altering ordeals.”
As the GOP field increases, it just keeps getting worse. Between Sens. Marco Rubio (FL) and Rand Paul (KY), former Gov. Mike Huckabee (AR), and now Carson and Fiorina, it’s hard to pick which candidate would be the most damaging to the country. Actually, it’s probably a dead heat. They’re all awful.
