At the South Carolina Freedom Summit this Saturday, Republican Representative Steve King blamed the rioting and unrest in Baltimore on President Barack Obama, exposing his racist thoughts.

“President Obama has consistently driven wedges between people. And he perceives a difference on race, ethnicity, sexual orientation–wedge after wedge after wedge. I didn’t really imagine they were going to drive a wedge between the law and law-breakers,” Kind said to reporters, according to Bloomberg. “It is instinctive on the part of the president. That’s a level that I have not seen before.”

Reporters asked King “point-blank if he blames obama for the violent demonstrations.”

“I’ll say yes,” King answered. “The culture has created that because they drove that culture in Ferguson and in multiplied itself in Baltimore and across the country.”

King’s ridiculous answer to the situation in Baltimore is that we need a new president.

According to King, a different president would have the ability to heal the nation by stating publicly, “Listen, God created all of us, and we cannot discriminate against people based upon the distinction that he’s given each of us.”
It’s a ridiculous proposition from King that does little to address the actual system-level issues that plague Baltimore and cities like. A system purposefully formed to maintain a perpetually abused and oppressed class will not be undone by pandering to a comfortable class of white voters, which is all that King is doing.
