As the fight over the Trans-Pacific Partnership rages on in the Senate, President Obama has been getting praise from the GOP, which is a pretty clear indication that the TPP is a terrible idea.

Yesterday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said on ABC’s This Week applauded Obama’s efforts on the TPP, even calling them “excellent.”

“I point out to my members who are somewhat squeamish, as you can imagine, giving the president the power of any issue, given his expansive view of his powers on so many other issues. But this is a trade promotion authority not just for President Obama, but for the next president as well. This is a six-year trade promotion authority bill that will give the next president an opportunity to enter into additional trade agreements with other countries around the world.”

The TPP is going to be a disaster. Maybe the fact that Republicans support it so fervently will serve as a wake-up call to the rest of the Democratic Party and they will kill it before it passes.
