MSNBC’s Chris Matthews grilled Michael Morrell, the former top intelligence briefer to the George W. Bush administration, about the flawed CIA intelligence that he submitted to the administration regarding Saddam Hussein.
Matthews cited this statement made by former Vice President Dick Cheney:
“We know he [Hussein] has been absolutely devoted to trying to acquire nuclear weapons. And we believe he has, in fact, reconstituted nuclear weapons.”
When Matthews asked Morrell if that was true, Morrell responded “No. That was not true.”
Morrell also admitted that the administration was trying to build a strong case for going to war with Hussein, even if that meant taking uncertain information and running with it.
