Rick Perry is officially unofficially running for president. He may not have announced anything yet, but he has announced that he will make an announcement in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, Perry has been traveling through Iowa – the first stop for any person who wants to be president – meeting with small groups of people and hoping to get a feel for what the American people want to hear from a presidential hopeful. He’s telling them that as governor of Texas, he cut taxes, he put lawsuit liability caps in place, and he cut out regulations so that businesses could run without government interference.
But here’s the problem that Perry has – those aren’t issues that resonate with the American public, especially when they look at what he did to the state of Texas.
Under his watch, the state of Texas became the largest polluter in the country, and then he attempted to sue the federal government when they told him to crack down on emissions.
As poverty was rising in Texas, he slashed funding for childcare services for families in need, effectively telling low-income families that nobody cared about them.
His state has the highest rate of uninsured citizens in the country.
He once suggested that Texas may have to secede from the union.
And the poor guy can’t even remember what federal agencies he wants to get rid of if he ever makes it into the White House.
America has already had a below average president from Texas, and we don’t need another one. Rick Perry would be George W. Bush on steroids, and I really don’t think America could survive another four years of backwards, back woods, Texas politics.
