Kurtis Cook, a volunteer firefighter in Mabank, Texas was fired from his volunteer position after writing on Facebook that Dylann Roof “needs to be praised” for his “good deed,” reported the Huffington Post.
Cook posted the comment on a South Carolina newspaper’s Facebook page. Local news outlet, KETK, in Texas obtained a screengrab of Cook’s horrendous post. Right after Cook’s post, someone obtained his personal information and doxed Cook on social media.
Cook made the post Friday morning. Within an hour, he was released from the Mabank Fire Department. According to a statement from the fire department:
As of 1123 hrs, after an investigation in the allegations being made of Firefighter Kurtis Cook, the Mabank Fire Department Command Staff has terminated Kurtis Cook as a volunteer Firefighter permanently and has trespassed him from all Mabank Fire Department property. The Mabank Fire Department does not condone nor promote these type of actions or thoughts. On behalf of all members, the Mabank Fire Department offers our deeply apologies to all that were offended by his actions and comments.
Shortly after the initial statement, the Mabank FD wrote a followup post again apologizing for Cook’s actions.
“The Mabank Fire Department does not condone nor promote these type of actions or thoughts,” read the post. “On behalf of all the members, the Mabank Fire Department offers our deepest apologies to all that were offended by his actions and comments.”
What exactly did Cook think he was going to accomplish by posting what he did? He probably thought he was going to be some beacon of free speech who would create some viral revolution against the “liberal agenda.” He was wrong.
