South Carolina state Representative Bill Chumley (R) expressed one of the most distasteful sentiment possible toward the victims of the shooting in Charleston, South Carolina. Chumley questioned why the people that Dylann Roof killed didn’t react, didn’t try to fight back, why they couldn’t overpower this “skinny” man. Effectively, according to Chumley, the victims just sat and “waited their turn to be shot.”
“These people sat there and waited their turn to be shot,” said Chumley. “That’s sad. Somebody in there with a means of self-defense could’ve stopped this.”
Chumley offers as proof of his theory the fact that Roof reportedly reloaded his gun during the mayhem.
“Why didn’t somebody just do something?” Chumley asked. “You’ve got one skinny person shooting a gun. We need to do what we can.
