The Ku Klux Klan will protest the Confederate flag’s removal from the South Carolina statehouse grounds, reported Talking Points Memo. The rally further proves the fact that the flag is a symbol of racism and hate.
The Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan will hold the protest on the South Carolina state capitol grounds in Columbia on July 18. James Spears, grand titan of the KKK chapter, said the rally will protest that “the Confederate flag [was taken] down for all the wrong reasons.” He added, “it’s part of white people’s culture.”
Confederate flag sympathizers like the Loyal White Knights say that the effort to remove the Confederate flag from state government grounds is “cultural genocide” against white people.
“If you can’t tell, they are trying to wipe us out of the history books,” read a message on the chapter’s website. “People seem to forget that black people and even the Cherokee Nations fought for the South. Unfortunately, most groups out there and especially white people are to [sic] cowardly to stand up for their heritage because they are scared of being called ‘racist.’”
On the contrary, keeping the Confederate flag in the history books is what removing it is all about. The Confederate flag is part of American history, and it should remain in that context. The flag doesn’t belong as a standing part of government representation. It’s a mere relic at this point and signifies the South’s racist past.
South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) acknowledges the group’s right to free speech but doesn’t support the chapter or its message.
The Loyal White Knights grand dragon, Robert Jones, said that the actions of Dylann Roof, the Charleston shooter, were the right idea, but he chose the “wrong target.”
“He should have actually aimed at the African-American gang-bangers, the ones who are selling the drugs to white youth, the ones who are robbing and raping every chance they get,” said Jones.
Shooting African-American “gang-bangers” is still just as racist as shooting the victims at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston. Each delivers a message that says “whites are superior, and black people are inferior.”
All this KKK rally will do is reassert the fact that the Confederate flag is a racist symbol to bolster the White supremacy agenda.
