The state of Florida is basically a giant swampland plagued with large reptiles, insects, and crooked Tea Party Republicans. Now, there’s a leprosy outbreak. There are typically two to 12 leprosy cases each year in Florida, but the Florida Department of Health (FDH) announced that there have been nine cases already in 2015.
The FDH attributes the leprosy outbreak to armadillos, which naturally carry the disease. They are one of the few known animals to naturally carry leprosy. Although leprosy is a rare disease, infecting 50 to 100 people each year, Florida’s leprosy-infection rate is among the nation’s highest.
If any state was to have such a disease outbreak, it would be Florida. The fact that a leprosy outbreak is occurring in that state makes it much less surprising. Can Florida get any worse?
