Texas police are fighting to convince the public that the video they have released of the arrest of Sandra Bland wasn’t edited. A spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety made the following statement to CBS News:
The entire video was uploaded to include the audio and video of the conversation the trooper had by telephone with his sergeant, which occurred after the arrest. Some of the video during this conversation was affected in the upload and is being addressed. We are working to repost the dash cam video.
Sandra Bland, 28, was found dead in her jail cell three days after having been pulled over and arrested by officer Brian Encinia. The video of the interaction between Bland and Encinia has multiple jumps and cuts in it. Commentators have noted that at one point in the video a car comes into view and then disappears, among various other jumps.
Bland’s death is currently being investigated as a homicide by the local district attorney. The FBI and Justice Department have also been asked to assist in the investigation.
Family of Bland have expressed their strong position that Bland would not have killed herself, which was the original position of officials.
