Ohio governor John Kasich is the latest Republican to join the crowded campaign field in their race to the nomination. We now have 16 different candidates on the Republican side all vying for a single spot on the 2016 ballot.
Kasich’s announcement came at a time when the rest of the GOP has already bruised one another fairly regularly, leaving Kasich one of the few who is not too bloodied up to fight.
Kasich also has the benefit of not being a household name at the moment, with relatively little media attention being paid to the Ohio governor during his tenure in office. This means that he might not have as many questions to answer about his record as other candidates – and in a Republican primary, that’s certainly a good thing.
