A white campus officer of the University of Cincinnati police department got indicted Wednesday for shooting an unarmed black man to death, reported CBS News.
Officer Ray Tensing shot and killed 43-year-old Sam Dubose during a traffic stop on July 19. Tensing’s attorney said the only reason his client got an indictment was because of the “current political climate.” Or, just maybe, some people are getting sick of cops killing unarmed civilians and getting away with it.
Tensing maintains that he acted out of fear for his life and said that he was “almost ran over” during the stop. Tensing also stated that he was dragged by Dubose’s car. “Tensing thought he was going to die,” said attorney Stew Mathews. “He thought he was going to get run over.”
Footage taken by Tensing’s body camera illustrates the opposite of Tensing’s account. Dubose was reportedly complying with Tensing and never posed any threat to the officer.
“[Tensing] lost his temper because Mr. Dubose wouldn’t get out of his car,” said Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters. “When you see this [footage] you won’t believe how quickly he pulls his gun. Maybe a second – it’s incredible.”
Tensing fired a shot at Dubose’s head, killing him.
