GOP Presidential Candidate Scott Walker likes to boast about his ability to address foreign policy matters, and the expertise of his chief advisor on the topic, Kevin Hermening. As addressed in detail in an article appearing in The Intercept, Hermening is a former U.S. Marine held hostage during the 1979 Iranian revolution.
Hermening’s foreign policy platform is very simple. First, we should conduct nuclear strikes against the capital cities of Muslim-majority countries, and especially those in Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Sudan and Yemen. Second we should have mass deportation of undocumented immigrants, particularly those of “Middle Eastern descent” (but likely also Mexicans now). Third, we should erect security fences “along the entire perimeter of the United States.” This way we can keep out people trying to come over to America from Canada and by boat. Not sure whether we also have to put a perimeter around Alaska and Hawaii.
The biggest problem today with the GOP leadership is not that they are narcissistic, hate-filled, ignorant, vulture capitalists, who are warmongers. It’s that they choose to surround themselves with advisors who think the same, such as Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld.
What can you expect from Scott Walker, however, a person who once said that Ronald Reagan’s decision to fire 11,000 striking air traffic controllers was “the most significant foreign policy decision of my lifetime.”
