As the 2016 election rapidly approaches, some Americans aren’t nearly as excited as others to head to the polls. Its not because they don’t care about politics or the future of the country; its because they aren’t certain if they’ll even be able to cast a ballot.
Ahead of the 2014 midterm elections, 22 states enacted new, restrictive voter ID laws that were designed specifically to prevent minorities from voting. These minorities make up a huge chunk of the Democratic Party’s voting base, so Republican state leaders did all that they could to prevent Democrats from making it to the polls.
Today, almost nothing has changed, and these laws and other restrictive voting laws are still on the books in states like Texas, Wisconsin, Ohio, Florida, and New Jersey – almost all of which are states that could easily tip this next election one way or the other.
