In the wake of Cecil the Lion’s killing, big game hunters have stepped out to defend his killer, Walter Palmer. One such hunter is Sabrina Corgatelli, an accountant for the Idaho State University, who faced criticism after killing a giraffe in South Africa. Her defense is mindboggling.
Corgatelli posted a photo of her posing with a dead giraffe online and received a barrage of comments denouncing her sick action. “To all the haters, stay tuned, you’re gonna have so much more to be pissed about,” she responded. She appeared on Today and gave an idiotic defense of her kill.
She said she did a public service because giraffes, which are docile herbivores, “are very dangerous animals [that] could hurt you seriously very quickly.” Giraffes are generally not known to be aggressive animals that attack human beings unprovoked. Like most animals, giraffes are prone to flee from danger, rather than engage and attack. However, if an intruder threatens the herd or its young, then a giraffe will attack in defense, like other animals. Corgatelli is just trying to make her kill seem more palatable to the general public.
Giraffes are not dangerous animals, despite Corgatelli’s assertion. Like all animals, their space and habitat should be respected. This woman needs psychiatric help.
