The Pennsylvania attorney general was charged yesterday with perjury, obstruction of justice, criminal conspiracy, official oppression, and false testimony, reported CBS News. Incredibly, the Pennsylvania attorney general is a Democrat. We at ROF thought the indictment criteria was limited to the GOP.
Kathleen Kane is accused of leaking confidential grand jury information to “punish” her critics and lying about it under oath. Kane allegedly leaked the information to a close political operative with the intent of “embarrassing and harming former state prosecutors she believed, without evidence, made her look bad.”
“No one is above the law, not even the chief law enforcement officer of the state of Pennsylvania,” said Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman. This is “a sad day for the citizens of Pennsylvania and a sad day for all of us in law enforcement.” DA Ferman conducted the investigation that outed Kane as a corrupt state official. Kane, naturally, denied any wrongdoing and issued a statement.
“I am very disappointed the district attorney has made the decision to pursue this case,” said Kane. “I have maintained my innocence from the day these allegations surfaced and I continue to do so today. I intend to defend myself vigorously against these charges. I look forward to the opportunity to present my case in a public courtroom.”
Kane is expected to be arraigned before the week ends. After being accused of leaking the documents to the press, Vetri cited an email from Kane that read, “This is war.” She is the second Pennsylvania attorney general to face criminal charges in the last 20 years.
