The number of uninsured Americans in the United States is at the lowest level since 1972. According to a report by the Centers for Disease Control’s National Center for Health Statistics, the rate of uninsured Americans fell below 10 percent in the first quarter of 2015.
It’s a significant drop from the report published in 2014. At that time, 11.5 percent of respondents reported not having health insurance. For the first quarter of 2015, according to the report, the rate of uninsured Americans was down to 9.2 percent.
According to analysis from CBS, this means that the “total number of Americans without insurance dropped from 36 million last year to 29 million in the first three months of 2015.”
It’s a strong indicator of the positive effect Obamacare is having on American healthcare markets. The report breaks up statistics by age, noting that “[a]mong adults aged 18-64, the percentage uninsured decreased from 16.3 percent in 2014 to 13 percent in the first 3 months of 2015.”
Despite relentless conservative attacks, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) survived at the Supreme Court. In a 6-3 decision the Court upheld the law, and kept the tax credits for individuals purchasing insurance through the federal exchange.
The ACA is here to stay and it is helping Americans get the quality health care that they deserve.
