There are rumors formulating that former vice president Al Gore is considering running for president in the 2016 race, reported Buzzfeed. Gore was vice president to Bill Clinton, who ran for president and won by popular vote in 2000. However, we all know how that ended.
Since being cheated out of the presidency in 2000, Gore has spent the last 15 years campaigning his environmental agenda. He’s most notably recognized for the release of the blockbuster environmental documentary An Inconvenient Truth. As far as his potential bid, an unnamed senior Democrat stated “they’re getting the old gang together.”
“They’re figuring out if there’s a path financially and politically,” said the Democrat. “It feels more real than it has in the past months.”
Despite there being some movement within Gore’s camp that could indicate a possible bid, it still remains highly unlikely that Gore will in fact run, some say. “This is people talking to people, some of whom may or may not have talked to him,” replied one of Gore’s top advisers.
Gore’s former top adviser, Roy Neel, said he hasn’t spoken to Gore and dismissed talk of a Gore 2016 campaign as a rumor. “It’s extremely unlikely,” said the former adviser.
Presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is finally making some headway against the Democratic frontrunner, Hillary Clinton. If Gore got into the mix, that would make for an interesting Democratic race.
