After a weekend-long feud between presidential candidate Donald Trump(R) and Fox News, the network caved and will “be fair” to Trump in the future, reported Politicus USA. The feud was started over Megyn Kelly’s “treatment” of Trump during the GOP national debate. Viewers of the network vowed to never watch Fox News again, and Trump supporters have reportedly sent death threats to Kelly.
After the debate, Trump was agitated from Kelly asking him tough questions, which is normal expectations for someone aiming for a position in the White House. However, Trump cried foul, threw a temper tantrum, and said he will “never do Fox News again.” Kelly has taken enormous amounts of criticism from Trump supporters.
“In the beginning, virtually 100 percent of the emails were against Megyn Kelly, said one source at Fox. “Roger was not happy. Most of the Fox viewers were taking Trump’s side.”
Considering that Trump brings in huge ratings for the network, Fox News CEO Roger Ailes scrambled to make amends. Fearful that Trump would make good on his claim to avoid the network, and that there would be a mass exodus of Fox viewers, Ailes reportedly called and begged Trump to go public with an announcement saying relations were now normalized between the network and himself. Trump played ball, and Ailes got his network and viewership back.
This is the most stark representation of Fox News’ abandonment of anything that remotely resembles journalistic integrity. What little remaining shreds of that supposed probity is now gone forever. Ailes has discredited and debased his most popular host in favor of Donald Trump and his viewership.
