Earlier this month, at a very ritzy seaside resort in Southern California, Charles and David Koch had the unmitigated chutzpah to compare their oppressive, right-wing agenda to the Civil Rights movement – virtually spitting in the face of Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks and others who were injured and even killed fighting for the same basic rights that white Americans had long taken for granted. It’s even more egregious when you consider that the John Birch Society, of which their father Fred Koch was a co-founder, was vehemently against civil rights for anyone.
The reality is that the only thing these latter-day, self-styled monarchs are fighting for is the right of the 1% billionaire class to take everything for their own personal property, leaving everyone else to fight over the crumbs on a dying, polluted planet.
Obviously, the Koch Brothers do not acknowledge this. They may even believe in their own diseased minds that their agenda will somehow lead to the realization of Ayn Rand’s libertarian paradise, where every person is completely free, unrestrained by pesky laws or regulations, to do as they like and take what they wish.
Newsflash, Your Majesties: such a society already exists. It’s called “Somalia.” It’s what Governor Scott Walker is trying to do in Wisconsin. Given that, it should come as no surprise that Walker has become the Koch Brothers’ new Golden Boy. The Koch’s lapdog was a featured speaker at both the recent conference (laughingly called “Unleashing Our Free Society”) and the annual summit of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). Now, Kings David and Charles Koch and their minions are preparing to drop $900 million in their attempts to buy the 2016 election.
Why sink $900 million into a candidate to buy an election? Because it’s the only way for King Chuck and King Davey to continue their reign of terror. For example, Koch Industries is responsible for putting a staggering 24 million metric tons of greenhouse gases into the planet’s atmosphere every year. When it comes to corporate polluters, Koch Industries is numbered with some of the most notorious names in the world, including Exxon-Mobil, Chevron and Royal Dutch Shell. The Kochs have played a key role in “fracking” that is poisoning groundwater, helping to write legislation exempting their operations from environmental regulations. They’ve even published guidelines for members of Congress on how to hamstring the Environmental Protection Agency. Koch Industries own a refinery in Minnesota that processes bitumen from Canadian tar sands. Petroleum coke, or “petcoke,” is so dirty that its use is prohibited in the US – but not in Mexico. Not surprisingly, the Kochs finance the National Association of Manufacturers, an organization promoting “petcoke” as a “safe and essential resource.”
All of this is just a small sample of their environmental record. These bastards are willing to destroy the planet on which their children and grandchildren must live, simply so they can increase their own obscene levels of monetary wealth.
They’re not just operating on the federal level, either. The Kochs were the moneyed forces behind Scott Walker as well as John Kasich, two of the most virulent anti-labor governors in the US. The Kochs were ultimately behind draconian sentencing laws that have led to the US having the largest prison population of any nation on earth. They’ve set out to destroy public education. They want to see everyone and everything thrown to the “mercy” of the free market.
This information is out there for the world to see. Yet these two aging plutocrats, worth $40 billion dollars, dedicated to destroying democracy as well as the planet, are putting huge amounts of money and resources into a propaganda campaign designed to convince the American People that their real motives are selfless – and that their primary objective is to help lift Americans up and make society and the economy better for all.
If that isn’t evil, then it certainly qualifies as psychotic delusion. In any event, Chuck and Dave – your secrets are out. Progressive media is shining the light on the hidden rot and corruption you’ve been attempting to hide under the rocks.
We aren’t buying it, anymore.
