White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest issued a statement regarding President Obama’s possible support of Joe Biden, should the vice president announce a 2016 candidacy, reported Addicting Info.
From Earnest’s statement:
The president has indicated his view that the decision he made, I guess, seven years ago now, to add Joe Biden to the ticket as his running mate was the smartest decision that he had ever made in politics. And I think that should give you some sense of president’s view of Vice President Biden’s aptitude for the top job.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is now being considered as the new Democratic front-runner by some due to his gained momentum against opponent Hillary Clinton. However, a Biden campaign would tap into a brand new constituency that would likely split the Establishment and maybe some progressive voters. It would weaken both Sanders and Clinton. This could be possible if Obama throws his support behind Biden.
Addicting Info hinted that if history is any indicator, Biden would likely propel to the head of the Democratic pack with Obama’s support. Bill Clinton gave his vice president, Al Gore, support in the 2000 race, and Gore surpassed opponent Sen. Bill Bradley. In 2008, George W. Bush supported John McCain during the senator’s run.
Considering all these possibilities, the Democratic race is wide open and will be quite unpredictable.
