Bernie Sanders has closed in on Hillary Clinton and is now within single digits of the Democratic frontrunner in Iowa, according to a new poll. If the poll numbers are maintained across other polls, it’s a sure sign that Hillary Clinton’s campaign is in more trouble than she’d thought and that Bernie Sanders is not the fringe candidate that many had tried to make him out to be.
Bloomberg Politics along with the Des Moines Register surveyed from August 23-26 and found a decline in Clinton support with Iowa Democrats. The poll finds that Clinton leads Sanders by only 7 points, 37 percent to 30 percent, and Joe Biden at 14 percent. Even if Biden never enters the race, Sanders maintains his position to Hillary, 35 percent to Clinton at 43 percent.
“It looks like what people call the era of inevitability is over,” said J. Ann Seltzer, whose company conducted the survey, to Bloomberg. “[Clinton] has lost a third of the support that she had in May, so any time you lose that much that quickly, it’s a wake-up call.”
