Republican Presidential Wannabe Ted Cruz’s father, Rafael Cruz, defended his son against attacks claiming his son isn’t eligible to run for president based on his nationality. The argument is that Cruz is ineligible since he was born in Calgary, Alberta.
On Sunday, according to the Washington Post, Rafael Cruz addressed the question speaking with the National Federation of Republican Assemblies in Nashville, Tennessee.
“The Naturalization Act of 1790 states quite clearly: a child born of a U.S.-born mother anywhere in the world is a U.S. citizen by birth and therefore a natural-born citizen,” Rafael said.
“Don’t let yourself be misguided by erroneous information,” said the senior Cruz. “There is no one the establishment is more afraid of than Ted Cruz. If there was any validity issue, you’d see 20 or 30 articles written in the newspapers trying to tear him down. …They know they can’t go there.”
Ted Cruz renounced his Canadian citizenship in 2014, to prepare for his presidential bid. He was born in Calgary while his mother, who is an American-born citizen, and father lived there for work.
