President Barack Obama has sealed enough Democratic support to ensure that Congressional Republicans can’t derail the Iran nuclear deal, reported CBS News.
Announcing her support on Wednesday, Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) became the 34th and final Democrat needed to protect the Iran nuclear deal. Although she believes that the deal isn’t perfect, it’s still a crucial piece of foreign policy needed to bolster global safety.
“No deal is perfect, especially one negotiated with the Iranian regime,” said Mikulski. “I have concluded that this Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action is the best option available to block Iran from having a nuclear bomb. For these reasons, I will vote in favor of this deal. However, Congress must also reaffirm our commitment to the safety and security of Israel.”
In recent weeks, Congressional Republicans have all but claimed defeat on the Iran nuclear deal, all while hoping the GOP wins the White House next year to repeal it. By that time, the deal will have already been implemented for a year, and likely proven successful. The GOP then will be unable to do anything, just as they can’t with the now successful Obamacare.
