According to a random survey of 1,000 Americans, a new HuffPost/YouGov poll found that many Republican voters agree with Democratic policies, but only when Donald Trump supports them.
According to the survey, only 16 percent of Republicans agreed with President Obama on universal healthcare. When Trump praised universal healthcare, that number increased to 44 percent. In the 90’s, Trump stated “I believe in universal healthcare. I believe in whatever it takes to make people well and better.”
When asked about Social Security, 57 percent of Republican voters agreed that the program should be protected from cuts when Hillary Clinton supported it. A staggering 74 percent of Republicans said they supported Social Security protection behind Trump.
Trump once said that he’s “fine” with Affirmative Action, a program that President Obama supports. Behind Obama, only 15 percent of Republicans said they support Affirmative Action. Republican voter support for Affirmative Action more than doubled at 33 percent when credited to Trump.
If this survey proves anything, it’s that people’s opinions are largely affected by the politicians they “like.” People support personalities, not issues and consequences.
