The Iran nuclear deal has passed the Senate with the required Democratic support. It will now go to the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, reported Addicting Info.
On Wednesday, Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) announced her support for the Iran nuclear deal, making her the 34th Senate Democrat needed to ensure that Republicans can’t dismantle the deal. With her support, Senate Republicans can’t override a presidential veto should they pass a resolution to dissolve the deal. Senate Republicans now have their backs against the wall.
Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN), chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is pleading with Democrats to not filibuster any GOP attempts to derail the Iran nuclear deal. He’s also asked for an up-or-down vote on an anti-deal resolution. AI noted that if seven more Democrats announce support for the deal, then the resolution will likely die in the Senate.
The Iran nuclear deal passed one obstacle in the Senate and now must pass the House. Similar with the Senate, the White House has enough Democratic support in the House to prevent a Republican override if Obama vetoes an anti-deal resolution.
