Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL), the chairperson of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), and former Secretary of State Colin Powell have both announced their support for the Iran nuclear deal, reported CBS News.

Schultz joins a small group of Jewish Democrats who have already announced their support, but it’s a ringing endorsement no less. “I’ll be casting my vote to support the deal and if necessary sustain the president’s veto,” she told Jake Tapper on CNN. “There’s nothing more important to me as a Jew than to ensure that Israel’s existence is there throughout our generations.”

Joining Schultz in supporting the deal is Powell. The former Secretary of State said that he’d studied both arguments for the deal and decided that supporting it is the smart decision. “In my judgment, after balancing those two sets of information, is that it’s a pretty good deal,” said Powell.

“People will say they can’t trust them [Iran]. I don’t trust them. I say we have a deal,” Powell said. “Let’s see how they implement the deal. If they don’t implement it, bail out.”

Schultz’s and Powell’s endorsements are huge for the Iran nuclear deal. Schultz brings with her the Democratic Establishment, and Powell was part of the Bush administration during the Iraq War. His support comes from a place of wisdom.
