Christian fundamentalists are constantly screaming (most often on Fox News) that they are being persecuted in the United States, and they are not going to take it anymore. They are going to stand up for their Constitutional Rights, with people like Kim Davis leading the charge, claiming to be the next Abraham Lincoln, Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr.
In a well-written article appearing in Addicting Info by T. Steelman, the issue of whether Christians are being persecuted in America is addressed in a quiz form. Mr. Steelman raises the following questions for American Christians to answer:
Are you allowed to go to a religious service of your own choosing? Steelman points out that in North Korea that Christians are not permitted to meet with Christians. If they do, they are subject to torture and execution.
Are you allowed to pray in the privacy of your own home? Steelman notes that in some Islamic countries it is against the law for Christians to pray, even in their own homes.
Can you purchase, read or possess religious books or material? Again, Steelman notes this is a punishable offense in certain countries.
Is your religious group allowed to build a house of worship in your community? Steelman notes that this is illegal in Saudi Arabia, and also notes the irony of just a few days ago the city planning commission of Sterling Heights, Michigan voted 9-0 to deny the construction of a mosque in the town.
Is your religious group allowed equal protection under the establishment clause? Steelman points out that Christians in this country often object any time religions other than Christians and possibly Jews wish to place religious symbols in public places.
Are you threatened with violence/injury/death in your country? Steelman notes that in some African countries, thousands of Christians are beaten and killed each year. Here in America, violence against Muslims has skyrocketed since 2001. On average, 100-150 violent crimes against Muslims occur in the U.S. every year.
