Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders yesterday joined striking federal workers over poor government wages, the same day Pope Francis arrived in America.
Sanders joined the striking government workers at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation in Washington. Sanders and the workers are using the Pope’s arrival to bolster the call for social and economic justice. Last year, President Obama raised the minimum wage for federal contractors to $10.10 per hour. Sanders and the workers want a $15 per hour minimum wage.

“The United States of America is the richest country in the history of the world,” Sanders said, “but most of the people do not feel that because most of the wealth and most of the income is going to the people at the top.”
