Mayor Robert Macdonald wants to report the names of welfare recipients publicly. On Thursday, MacDonald announced he wants to pursue the creation of a website that reports on the personal details of welfare recipients.

“After all, the public has a right to know how its money is being spent,” said Macdonald.

Writing in the Twin City Times, Macdonald argued for the creation of a website that contained “the names, addresses, length of time on assistance and the benefits being collected by every individual on the dole.”

Macdonald questioned why Maine would have a website that lists the pensions of individuals but not the details of welfare recipients.

“The answer: our liberal, progressive legislators and their social-service allies have made them a victimized, protected class,” said Macdonald. “It’s none of your business how much of your money they get and spend. Who are you to question it? Just shut up and pay!”
