Former two-time Republican presidential candidate and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry spoke at the 2015 Values Voters Summit on Friday. This is his first public address since dropping out of the 2016 race, and a desperate scramble for attention.
“We don’t elect kings,” said Perry “We overthrow them. We can’t sacrifice our principles for the cult of personality. The message has always been greater than the individual.” The statement was an obvious shot taken at Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump.
Perry has been struggling with relevance ever since his tenure as the Texas governor ended. Now that he has all this free time, he can finally face the music on that felony abuse of power indictment.
