As Pope Francis made his way into the House Chambers to address Congress, he stopped to shake the hand of only one leader: John Kerry. Those in attendance had been told not to extend their hands or attempt to engage the pope as he wished to stay on schedule and deliver his address promptly. Yet, Pope Francis made a point to stop and shake John Kerry’s hand.

John Kerry is a catholic. He was key in the negotiations of the Iran nuclear deal and he is known for being pro-choice. It makes it clear that Pope Francis brings a fresh perspective to the Catholic church.
