What the Hell? The Federal Election Commission (FEC) has asked a Ted Cruz super PAC (Keep the Promise I) to explain why it gave $500,000 to Carly Fiorina’s super PAC.
According to Kellyanne Conway, president of Keep the Promise, her Ted Cruz super Pac “made the donation in June to Ms. Fiorina at that time because we thought she had important things to say that weren’t being heard, including her poignant and effective criticism of Mrs. Clinton.”
So what Ms. Conway is saying is Cruz paid Fiorina $500,000 to attack Hillary, because Fiorina is a woman and can do it better than Cruz.
The Cruz PAC raised just over eleven million dollars by the end of June, nearly all of it from a Robert Mercer, a Wall Street hedge fund manager. The $500,000 donation to CARLY for America is its largest expenditure to date. The remainder of the $36,169 it spent went to polling research and legal fees.
