Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina is a notoriously bad business person, and she’s reportedly terrible with money, as well. For instance, a pollster that worked for Fiorina during her failed 2010 Senate campaign passed away, but she withheld his last paycheck from his widowed wife until earlier this year.

The pollster, Joe Shumate, died in his home one month prior to Election Day 2010 while he slaved away at polling data for Fiorina. She said Shumate was the “heart and soul” of her campaign team. She also said that he was a person who believed in “investing in those he worked with.”

Fiorina, a corporate millionaire, doesn’t show that same investment in her employees. She withheld a paycheck worth $30,000 from Shumate’s widow and didn’t settle the balance until January. What’s more, she left 30 invoices, totaling $500,000, for different items unsettled. She didn’t neglect to reimburse herself the $1.3 million she lent the campaign.

Some in Fiorina’s camp urged the former CEO to pay her debts. But she always refused to do so. “Occasionally, I’d call and tell her she should pay them,” said Fiorina’s former campaign manager, Martin Wilson. “She just wouldn’t.”

The Washington Post published a scathing report on Fiorina’s nastiness.
