House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy announced today that he will not seek to serve as the Speaker of the House. This follows strong criticism from fellow members of the Republican Party.
Last month, the current Speaker of the House, John Boehner, announced that he would leave Congress on Oct. 31.
The vote for who will replace John Boehner has been postponed.
According to CBS News, Representative Randy Weber (R-Texas) said that during a meeting Thursday, McCarthy announced he would drop from the race to encourage the party to be unified.
