Planned Parenthood announced on Tuesday that the organization will cease receiving reimbursements for fetal tissue donations, a completely legal practice.

Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards announced the new policy in a letter sent to National Institutes of Health. The new policy was implemented to take any ammunition away from anti-abortion politicians and activists.

“In order to completely debunk the disingenuous argument that our opponents have been using – and to reveal the true political purpose of these attacks – our Federation has decided, going forward, that any Planned Parenthood health center that is involved in donating tissue after an abortion for medical research will follow the model already in place at one of our two affiliates currently facilitating donations for fetal tissue research,” Richards wrote.

Over the summer, political hit jobs were launched against Planned Parenthood in an attempt to mislead the public into believing the agency profited off of fetal tissue. The new policy will apply only to the one Planned Parenthood clinic that allowed women to donate fetal tissue from their abortions to medical research.
